FLORA & FAUNA ASSESSMENT
OzArk offers a broad range of ecological assessments in-house as well as having a strong network of associates in related specialist fields. As a team, we are able to cater for all aspects of environmental studies, irrespective of scale.
Our assessments are based on sound and comprehensive background research including appropriate database searches, literature review and consultation with local community groups and government agencies to identify potential issues. This is followed by thorough field work aimed at assessing whole landscapes and systems and identifying flora, fauna, key habitat elements and vegetative / ecological communities. When required, further assessment of fauna such as spotlighting, bat echolocation, call identification, scat collection, live Elliott or cage trapping etc. can be undertaken.
The results are interpreted in terms of the relevant legislation enabling the formulation of appropriate management recommendations. Some of the specific outputs of this research include:
- Mapping locations of survey sites and techniques;
- Providing an inventory of all flora and fauna species, populations and ecological communities with specific reference to those listed in Schedule 1,2&3 of the Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995, the Commonwealth Environment Protection Biodiversity Act 1999 and by referencing ROTAP;
- Carrying out 8 part tests if required;
- Providing an indication of the local, regional and state conservation significance of the species recorded;
- Identification of habitat corridors and linkages;
- Providing a species listing to assist with any habitat and vegetation restoration works, and;
- Provide management recommendations and offer mitigative measures to assist in the implementation of the project.
